Business Cards

Some creative business cards I came across and liked the unique designs.

These cards are for a divorce lawyer and a marriage counselling service. Both card designs demonstrate the service provided by the person on the card. I really like the literal translation, simple but effective.

This card has a double use, as a business card and as a packet for a free sample. This is effective because it means customers can try before they buy.

Drench Advert

I love this advert! It's just not what you would expect from the Thunderbirds character Brains. It has the same feel good factor to it as the Cadburys drumming gorilla advert. It is quite a long advert compared to many other adverts but it never gets boring. The message has been given a literal translation in an entertaining way. It will certainly get people talking about the advert, therefore raising the profile of the product.

Audi RS6

This advert is visually stunning. It is instantly engaging. The art direction and music create drama and energy. The different routines performed by the gymnasts represent different aspects of the car. The music features sounds of the car which relate to the gymnasts routines. I think it is really clever how they have managed to highlight the selling points of the car (it's features) without actually showing the car until the very end. A very well executed ad, further enhancing Audi's high quality image.

Persil Small and Mighty 'Pop Up Book'

I think this advert is really simple yet effective. The 'back to basics' style used through the pop up book is interesting and impressive. Although the style is simple there is a great deal of detail in each page of the book. I like the way the children are interacting with the book. This advert manages to create excitement and add interest to an otherwise everyday product.

Catalina Estrada

This is the work of illustrator Catalina Estrada. Her work particularly appeals to me because of the bright, vivid colours. The scenes which she creates have an enchanted feel making them interesting and intriguing. I admire her style of sophisticated fairytale scenes. The detail and vibrance in the images makes you want to explore them and draws the viewer into her enchanted world.

Her client list includes Paul Smith, Sony Music, Nike and Honda. Below is a limited edition bottle design for Coca Cola designed by Catalina Estrada celebrating Easter. I think her style of illustration is very appropriate for this theme and works really well.

Pretty Paper

Entries for an art contest at the Hirshorn Modern Art Gallery in Washington DC. The rule was that the artist could use only one sheet of paper. This has produced some really interesting, intricate and clever outcomes. I am impressed at how they have made the most of being limited to one sheet of paper by using the area that has been cut out, and used to make the model, to add to the overall image.

Ambient Media - Bags

Some more ambient media, this time focusing on bags. Some make use of when the hand will be inside the handle and some make use of the actual handle to tell the message. I think they all work really well and I like the way they do not make sense until they are in use.

Ambient Media - Buses

Some ambient media which makes clever use of exisiting parts of the bus, giving these objects new meaning. They are all very eye catching and instantly understandable.

From edible to incredible

Something I found on the BBC News website about a photographer Carl Warner who has painstakingly captured all kinds of food in a series of still lifes. Everything you see in the images can be found in the kitchen.

Edible ingredients in this Italian-inspired rural scene include a lasagne cart, fields of pasta, a pine nut wall, mozzarella clouds, trees of peppers and chillies and a parmesan village.

A winter landscape for carnivores - Parma ham and breadsticks are fashioned into a sled which is pulled across a snow-covered road made from a selection of cold meats.

The red sky at night in this landscape is actually made from salmon.

Si Scott

I know that many people will have seen if not heard of this illustrator as his work is used in advertising such as Orange, Nike and Casio and many more. I think his work is stunning. I love the organic curves and patterns he creates. Much of his work is well known. However, when I was looking at his website I came across some illustrations of animals he had created for Silent Studios. I was amazed by the detail he had created. He has managed to produce an abstract yet incredibly detailed image.

Sport in the 21st Century

This is a stunning set of photographs by photographers at Reuters. The photographs have been put together in a book, but are also on show as part of an exhibition outside City Hall in London. These photographs show the beautiful side of sport and celebrate sport. The exhibition features three themed sections that explore action photography, sports personalities and diversity of local sports around the world. The photos are really original, mostly due to the angle of the shot. I realise that as a keen sports enthusiast, this sort of thing would appeal to me but I also think it has the capabilities to attract a wider appeal as they are so different from other sports photography I have come across.

Sony Walkman Ad

It seems Sony can do no wrong when it comes to adverts. Following on from the Sony Bravia adverts where Sony have tried to own colour, they are doing the same with music to advertise their walkman. It is another awe inspiring advert which makes viewers instantly engage with it. One of the reasons I think the Sony adverts are so successful is the sheer scale of them. It will be interesting to see how Sony develop these music adverts, having seen how they have developed the bravia colour ads.
