Blackle

www.blackle.com

I found this link on the creative review blog. I think it is a great example of ecological design. At a time when climate change is a topical issue, this website is very relevant. It is a Google search engine but in black.
'If Google swapped their white background for black, it's claimed, 750 mega watts/hour per year could be saved.'

How bizzare! I checked out the Blackle site... is it funded by Google?... or does it just use Googles search engines?! You wouldn't think that by using a Black BG, it could save energy! Very interesting fact... and very relevant to todays ecologically and environmentally friendly consumers. Another example of how design and enviroment works hand in hand.

Thats very interesting, and like michelle I would have never imagined it would make a difference! Definately something to think about when designing online. I also think it happens to look better anyway, and just as easy to read!
